Personal Nursing Philosophy The purpose of this paper is to briefly discuss the nursing career background and experiences thus far of the author and share the current healthcare professional setting in the operating room. Another purpose of this paper is to define the four metaparadigms or concepts of patient, nurse, health, and environment and discuss in detail the two concepts that are specific to the surgical setting, environment and nursing. Lastly, the author will list five propositions thatconnect to the environment and nursing concepts to the authors nursing practice. Nursing BiographyOne of the most memorable days was a little over thirteen years ago walking across the LaGrange College graduation stage earning a Bachelor’s degree of Science in Nursing (BSN). With lots of enthusiasm the memorable days continued to add up with passing the NCLEX RN Exam and beginning a career in nursing on an inpatient diabetic floor, 5B, at a trauma hospital. As knowledge continued to grow and developing expert nursing skills through confidence and experience the interests to explore the other settings within the healthcare system became a transfer to the operating room to be a circulating nurse in the operating room. During this time in the operating room circulating experience was gained in all of the surgical specialties as well as setting up the surgical field and assisting the surgeon with the surgeries. After several years anopportunity to work in a busy infectious disease clinic came about and two years were spent accessing PICC lines to infuse intravenous antibiotics, assisting in wound care management, medication management for patients taking antiretroviral regimen, and assisting with travel clinicinjecting needed immunizations needed to travel around the world. While working in the infectious disease clinic experience was also gained at an oral surgeon’s office that needed a

Following this experience, clinical nurse coordinator for orthopedic surgeries becamemy specialty for the next five years.
