As this is one of the most reputed medical organizations in California, discussion of organizational culture is necessary. According to the Organizational Culture Assessment Instrument (OCAI) website, it is ‘a validated tool for assessing current and preferred organizational culture, developed by professors Robert Quinn and Kim Cameron of the University of Michigan, based on the Competing Values Framework (CVF).’ (“OCAI online,” n.d.). Being a hospital, Palomar identifies primarily as a hierarchy culture type as per the OCAI. The working environment is professional and regulated to meet high standards of medical care, with executives and employees in well-defined positions comprising of a clear ordered structure. However, there are signs of Palomar as a market culture type too, evidenced by a highly effective leadership to prevent errors (“Palomar Medical Center,” 2016) and its emphasis on winning awards as incentives to reputation and success (“Award-Winning Care,” 2017).
