Low self-esteem is the cause of many social and individual problems. When someone does not feel good about her/himself, that person can easily adopt negative stereotypes about others. For example, a 43 year old man who was betrayed by his mother when he was a little boy by allowing men to beat and sexually abuse him grows up with low self-esteem, anger management problems, trust issues, and hatred for “good for nothing” women (as the women who was supposed to love and protect him did not).
