Qualitative research is often used to generate possible leads and ideas which can then be used to formulate a realistic and testable hypothesis. The hypothesis can be tested comprehensively and mathematically using qualitative research methods. In qualitative research the hypothesis is based on observations made during the initial stages of research and it is formed after these initial stages. In quantitative research the hypothesis is usually generated in order to set the stage for research.
