OBJECTIVES:

Determine the focal spots sizes of the x-ray unit. Students will need an understanding from previous practicals on:
- the use of an x-ray unit;
- setting radiographic exposure factors;
- set-up the x-ray unit;

- exposure indices (EI) that provides an indication of the radiation dose that reaches the image receptor;
- image histograms; and
- digitising, viewing and manipulate image brightness and contrast in an image.
In this practical, students will gain an understanding of:
- how changing the focal spot size, OID and CR image processing parameters affects image detail;
- the use of line pair phantoms.
