Write My Essay For Me!Step 1: Read back through your clinical assessment forms for your previous placements. Reflecting on feedback provided by your clinical facilitator, along with your own insights regarding your clinical performance, identify 2 specific areas where your knowledge or skill could be improved to enhance your compliance with the (NMBA Nurse Standards for Practice and the UTS Graduate Attributes/UTS Nursing Graduate Attributes). These are your 2 learning needs.
Step 2: Identify 2 learning goals for each of your 2 learning needs (4 goals in total) which you can achieve on your upcoming placement for Navigating Transitions which will allow you to address your learning need/s and improve your clinical practice.
These do not have to be clinical. They may be clinical, or they may be professional based learning needs so long as they are relatable to the Standards of Practice and UTS Graduate Attributes.
Step 3: Using the template provided on UTSOnline, format these learning goals into a SMART format. Under each of the columns in the provided table consider the following:
Learning Need: Identify a clear a specific learning need and provide a brief (2-3 sentences) rationale for this learning need.
Be specific here as this will help you to identify specific goals. For example, Do not write ‘improve communication’, but rather consider ‘improve ISBAR handover in group handover’, or ‘improve non-verbal communication with patients who are acutely confused’. Instead of a vague learning need such as ‘improve clinical skills’ identify a specific learning need such as ‘improve respiratory assessment performance and interpretation’.
Your 2-3 sentence rationale of your learning need should identify why you feel that this is currently a gap in your knowledge. It may be that you have had limited or no exposure to this problem, it may be that you have received feedback saying that this is an area where you need to develop, or it may be that you have made errors or lack confidence in this skill or knowledge area.
Specific: Identify a specific task/s you will complete in order to address your learning need. This is your specific goal.
It is essential here to be specific. For example: Do not write ‘read policy’, rather identify which policy you will read. Do not write ‘attend in-services’ (particularly as you do not know which in-services will be conducted on placement), but rather identify which workshops or lectures are being advertised will you specifically attend, Do not write ‘do online module’ but identify specifically which online course/modules you will do.
This learning need should reflect a realistic expectation of a third year BN student. This should not include content which was required to pass first or second year, which you have been assessed as already knowing. For example, do not have ‘hand hygiene’ as a learning need, as it is expected that you already know this.
If you wish to expand your knowledge on a concept which it is expected you already know about then you need to be specific. For example, you could say “continence management to prevent falls” as a specific learning need rather than ‘falls prevention’ which you should already have a foundational knowledge of.
This is designed to help you to achieve your own goals. As such, try to identify the best way which you learn (this will be individual) and look for learning resources which will align with your learning style. For example, if you do not learn well from reading do not put a learning goal to read a lot of journal articles. Your learning plan should be focused on helping you to develop yourself and take accountability for your own professional development.
Measurable: How will you objectively measure whether or not you have achieved your goal? This also needs to consider whether your improved skill or knowledge is accurate and correct.
You must also include here what supporting evidence you will be able to provide to prove that you have achieved this goal.
For example, it could be that at the end of a learning task you will complete a competency assessed by a CNS, CNE or your facilitator. The assessment will provide objective feedback about the level of improvement, while the competency document will provide evidence of achievement.
It could be that you will complete a written or online test which will provide you with a measurable score, and a certificate of attainment.
Attendance certificates are not evidence of learning, as they do not prove that you improved your knowledge and are not objective measurements.
Achievable: For a goal to be achievable you must identify what resources are available to you to help you achieve this goal. You must also consider what barriers may be present and how you would overcome these barriers.
For example, your goal might be to be able to identify 4 common arrhythmias in a 12 lead ECG, and a barrier may be that in your clinical area on placement there may not be any ECGs taken. In order to overcome this, you might read through patient’s past notes to find ECGs to interpret with your facilitator.
Relevant : Identify the NMBA Nurses standard of practice which relates to your goal. Identify the UTS Graduate Nurse attribute which relate to your chosen goal.
Time: How long will this goal take you to achieve? Identify how many hours or clinical shifts this will take you. Specify a date by which this goal needs to be achieved or re-evaluated.
References: There is no requirement to include any evidence or literature base for this assignment. However, as with all work, if you do use other people’s work or ideas you must reference this.
If you identify specific policy, workshops or online material that you would like to use to achieve your goal then please reference this according to UTS Harvard guidelines.
