Due Date: At the end of Unit 7
Select a patient education tool for an adult with an acute or chronic alteration in health status. The tool can be an online education resource or tutorial, a printed handout or brochure, or other written patient education information from a textbook or nursing journal. Once you have selected the tool, you will analyze it for use in your clinical practice for patient education. The purpose of this assignment is for you to gain awareness of the variety of patient & family education materials that are available, and analyze the chosen tool for use in the clinical setting.
NOTE: The tool cannot be one that is already noted in the N400 course learning units. You must locate one from another source.
Assignment 4 Guidelines

Introduce the patient education tool by providing an overview of it. Include the source, and type of tool (written or print material from a journal or textbook, online tutorial or resource, or a printed handout or brochure). Describe the tool in terms of the design and content. Remember to cite the source in your introduction.
Describe the audience for whom the education tool is appropriate (i.e., adults in general or someone with a specific illness, or family members). Include your assessment of the tool readability level and cultural appropriateness.
Explain and analyze what you like about the tool. What are your perceptions of the advantages of using the tool in clinical practice? Is there any evidence of the effectiveness of this particular education tool?
Explain and analyze what you dislike about the tool or any potential barriers to using it in your clinical practice. Is there anything that could or should be added to the tool to increase its effectiveness for patient/family education?
Evaluate the source for the patient education tool. Is it a reliable source? Are the authors listed? What are the qualifications for the authors? Did other experts in the field review the tool?
Conclude your assessment by summarizing the purpose, strengths and weaknesses of your selected patient education tool. Give one brief example of how you will use this tool in your clinical practice.
Support your analysis and discussion with at least three scholarly references.
Use APA (6th edition) for citing your references and the reference list.
Double-space your paper and use at least a 12-point font. Include page numbers and topic headings in your paper.
You should be able to meet these assignment criteria requirements in a maximum of 1750 words (6 - 7 pages with a 12 point font) excluding title and reference pages. Include a word count at the end of your paper.
