However there are gender identity disorders that specifically affects one gender over the other. For example, the Diagnostic and Statistical Manual of Mental Disorders (DSM-IV-TR [APA], 2000) has classified sexual disorders for women and men under “Sexual and Gender Identity Disorders” (p. 535). “The section contains Paraphilias and gender identity disorders [or sexual dysfunctions]. The sexual dysfunctions are characterized as by “disturbances in desire and the psycho-physiological changes that characterize the sexual response cycle and cause marked distress and interpersonal difficulty” (p. 535). The following sexual dysfunctions are presented to explain two causes of a sexual disorder. The first primarily affects men, and the latter most often affects women.
