Community health nursing is the combination of nursing practices with the public health to promote and make the health of a population better.  Public health nurses work in a community by focusing on specific areas that affect the health conditions of a society.  One of the qualities needed for a community health nurse is the ability of socialization. The nurse must have the power to interact correctly with the community members to get information about what is affecting their wellbeing. It is also essential for the nurses to understand the values, norms, and beliefs of the target community to create medication processes acceptable by the society members. Ensuring that community health nurses come from the target group, therefore, enables administering medication and preventive measures to certain health conditions easy.

Public health nursing defines community as the surrounding population to a medical firm and not people from the same tribe who share norms, beliefs, and values. Community health nurses have a set geographical area where they must ensure disease-causing circumstances are solved and illnesses cured. An individual is considered part of the healthcare community as long as he is found within the set geographical areas. The real definition of society as the people with the same beliefs, norms, and values living in the same geographic area and the healthcare definition is the same in most rural areas. It is because in most rural areas families and communities live in the same geographical area with only a few individuals from different groups.

In urban areas, people from different backgrounds come together and live in the same geographical area forming a group. They do not share the same cultural norms and beliefs but will be considered a community for the nearest medical practice. Community health care nurses will have a duty to ensure the geographical area of these individuals is safe and illness conditions solved within the formed community. The cultural belief aspect is dealt with an individual level within a community when administering medication. Creating a better environmental situation to prevent infections is carried out on the universal principles to protect the population and not according to the beliefs of individuals.
