Seven principles are considered based on the model of empirically supported interventions (collaborative counseling):
Principe 1: Lead of specificity should be considered when evaluating outcome effectiveness evidenced at several levels: (a) general categories of action [e.g., psychotherapy, supervision, vocational counseling, etc. (b) Level and major approaches of modalities applied to Level a activities [e.g., cognitive behavioral therapy, career exploration & group counseling, and (c) Level of major approaches for specific areas for specific populations[e.g., cognitive-behavioral treatment for depression, drug use prevention in schools, skills training for trainees, and marital therapy]. (d)Level 4-specific approaches in specific areas for specific population [e.g., well-specified prevention programs for person with risk factors and cultural considerations].
Principle 2- Level of specificity should not be restricted to diagnosis. In addition to the Diagnostic and Statistical Manual of Mental Disorders (DSM-IV-TR, 2000) criteria, other variables such as ethnicity, gender, and preference for treatment must be considered.
Principle 3 -scientific evidence needs to be examined in its entirety and aggregated appropriately. For example, counselors should focus on accumulated evidence, and an aggregation of research results and appropriate methods.
