Woman 48: Promoted to assistant manager at her job; her work is important to her as she talks about the conferences she has the opportunity to attend in the last year. She has two children, which are adult’s now, and her son is married, giving her three grandchildren, as well. Her family is important to her, as she had two grandchildren staying with her for the weekend at her cabin (leisure is important druing this age period). She called her mom and dad to join us for a barbecue. Her husband and friend were boating. These are psychosocial issues of an increased focus on career and work as well as developing productivity and caring (strength in the generactivity development in Erikson’ theory – see examples below). She has many friends and social gatherings, like the barbecue I was invited to and taking these observations. Her social life revolved around work, family and community. She recently had eye surgery to correct her vision and began weight training because she noticed a decrease in her muscle mass and an increase in body fat around her mid section.
