Finishing the Race Devotion As we come to the end of the HST-102 course, we challenge you to finish strong – finish well! It’s easier to be a starter than a finisher – how many of us have half-completed projects around the house, or half-completed personal and professional goals or pursuits? When it comes to our relationship with God, it’s even more important to finish well! The Apostle Paul, who endured so much persecution and suffering for the cause of Christ, could confidently and without regret say near the end of his life: “I have fought the good fight, I have finished the race, and I have remained faithful. And now the prize awaits me – the crown of righteousness, which the Lord, the righteous Judge, will give me on the day of his return. And the prize is not just for me but for all who eagerly look forward to his appearing.” (2nd Timothy, 4:7, New Living Translation) All of us have good intentions when we start tasks, projects, or other endeavors – however, good intentions don’t translate into achievements. We have to be finishers and this requires endurance and perseverance. You have endured and persevered through the first four weeks of HST-102 – there’s now light at the end of the tunnel! While the immediate challenge is to finish this course well, one course is just a small part of the journey in completing your degree program. Stay focused on your academic goals and dreams. Earning a degree is a long, arduous process that requires patience, commitment and just plain hard work.
